Our Mission
Our mission is to re-establish the "food basket" of Taos by helping local farmers secure contracts through local schools and restaurants while at the same time providing fresh and nutritious foods for children/students in the Taos School District. We are helping to ensure the future of sustainable food in the Taos Valley by working in local schools and teaching students how to grow, harvest and prepare foods; knowing that once they get a taste of fresh, healthy foods, that they will make healthy food choices now and in the future.
We are helping Taos become a Farm-to-School community through our partnership with local schools.
We are on our way to making the most important impact we can have on our community - ensuring all children have access to local, healthy fresh food.
Our School Lunch Program serves over 800 organic USDA certified meals to local Taos charter schools each day. The schools our program serves are:
Taos International Charter School
Vista Grande Community High School
Taos Integrated School of the Arts
By eating local, not only are kids learning to make healthy choices but they are building the local farming network, supporting the local economy, reducing their carbon footprint, and saving the butterflies and bees!
The Third Meal
Our newest project is called The Third Meal. It provides a dinner meal to children ages 1-18 throughout the district in special after-school programs.
